If you are frustrated that YouTube's iOS app doesn't let you upload videos, then you missed YouTube Capture's release last December.
Google decided to keep video uploading separate from video viewing.
YouTube Capture made it easy to capture, lightly edit, and upload videos
from your iPhone or iPod Touch, but there was no love shown for those who wanted to perform such a trick with an iPad. Now, with yesterday's update, YouTube Capture is universal, bringing
iPad videographers into the fold.
After installing the app, you'll need to sign in to your YouTube account, allow the app to access your Camera Roll, and say yes or no to three settings: color correction, image stabilization, landscape lock. I agreed to all three and particularly like the third setting, which prevents me from accidentally shooting videos in portrait mode. You can also link the app to your Google+, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.
After this initial setup process, there is a fourth setting you might want to enable: rotate to begin recording. With it turned on, you don't need to tap the record button to start recording: simply launch the app and rotate it into landscape mode to start recording. While in settings, you can also choose from two upload quality settings: 360p or 720p.
Once you have captured a video, you can choose to use the color correction and stabilization tools, and you can also trim the beginning and end of your video before uploading it. You can also choose from among 21 YouTube soundtracks. You can adjust the level of this background music, but you can't upload your own track for Google's fear of copyright violation. Lastly, YouTube Capture lets you select a privacy setting and share your video on Google+, Facebook, and Twitter.
